Great news for the Gloucester Fight Factory as its owner and founder, Jon Pitman won the prestigious Sports Champion of the Year at the Believe in Gloucester Awards. The glamorous ceremony was held at Gloucester Rugby Club and Jon was selected as the winner by a panel of independent judges.
Jon did not even know that he had been entered for the award, as a submission was made by a member of his gym and he was chosen as the winner ahead of two other high profile local sports coaches. Dignitaries at the event included the local MP, Richard Graham, Head of the County Council, Mark Hawthorne, Head of Gloucester City Council, Paul James and Gloucester Citizen editor Jenny Hawthorne.
Speaking to the local paper about the win, Jon said: “What I do isn’t a job to me because I love it. I have great support from the young coaches and from my wife who loves boxing as much as I do. “And the people who use my gym are just the best customers in the world. I am so lucky.”
Jon’s name was alongside other high profile winners from the night such as Jamie McDonald, Peter Hickman and the highly respected Holly Gazzard Trust.
